I've always read and thought about Song of Songs as beautiful writing describing the relationship between a husband and wife, which it is. But as I'm trying to grow a more intimate relationship with God, I've been trying to think of Him as my love, as my husband. I think it's so important to view God as Lord, as Savior, as Sovereign, as a Father, as a Friend, but he also wants to be our Love, he wants to be desired by us. I was trying to read this book from that perspective, and I felt like God was really showing me some awesome stuff that I wanted to share with whoever is reading this.

Tell me, O my love, where are you leading your flock today? Where will you rest your sheep at noon? For why should I wander like a prostitute among the flock of your companions? - 1:7.

As I read that verse tonight, I couldn't help but ask myself "how long will I live amongst false idols? How long before I stop stumbling amidst them?" When will my Lord return for me? I long to be in His presence, but I'm still here on this earth, trying to keep my head above water.

God responded: If you don't know, O most beautiful woman, follow the trail of my flock to the shepherd's tents, and there feed your young goats. - 1:8

Since we don't know when the Lord will come for us, we must follow God's leading: to the places where God is, to our church, to fellowship with our family in Christ...that is where we have to fill our needs, refresh ourselves, grow.

I suppose it's a simple concept, but it's what God chose to show me tonight, so I just wanted to share it with y'all!

A few new thingos:

I was able to open my freshly white eye this morning...so false alarm on that whole pink eye thing.

I had my first day of work today, it was pretty busy, but it went by fast, and I think if I be sure to wear comfortable (yet still "dress up") shoes I'll be much more able to do it 15 hours a week. My job description is pretty much kitting and shipping the orders, entering data into the database (addresses, orders, etc.), cleaning up at the end of the day and stocking the shelves behind the front desks (for walk-in orders). I have to work this saturday; they give classes one saturday of every month and this one is on thyroid and protein. We're going to be making smoothies so that will be kind of good tasting. And I told them I have somewhere to be at 2 so I can head out a bit early and still go to the small group picnic. Yeah woo! Linden Hills Park!!

Oh yeah...and one more thing. I just got word that last year's Wool paper has been OFFICIALLY accepted for my senior project, yeah woo!!!

Today when I was depositing some money in my checking account, I had to wait a few minutes (but it really wasn't that long) and the guy who helped me told me he was going to credit my account five dollars for making me wait.

I was like "what?...uh, okay."

Free five dollars for like 3 minutes waiting. Who does that? I'll tell you...really generous US Bank employees.

And also, the transportation fair was giving out free 600ml bottles of coca-cola products. Free Diet Coke!

Yesterday we sold cheap hot dogs and soda for Rock Students, and although we didn't get to tell too many people about the group we got to hang out with a bunch of people we haven't seen in a while. I got to hang out with Sarah and Rachel and Maren and Karl and Luke and Will. I hadn't seen Luke since last semester and I hadn't seen Will since before he went to Israel. So that was exciting!!

Earlier in the day I got to run with Maren and Karl around Lake Calhoun...Karl ran ahead and he lapped us when we were only half way around the lake!! He even stopped to go to the bathroom in that time!! He did 7 miles in less time than it took us to do 3.5! Way to go Karl!

Last night was Maren's first girls night (Oh yes, it's ladies night)...it was real good. I've got eight words for you:
"Maren makes the best brownies in the world"

And today was my first day of classes! Muffin was so cute as I was getting ready...all wanting to get petted, he wasn't being crochety at all. One of my classes got done in 6 minutes, so that was pretty sweet.

And here's a picture of Charlotte!
Howdy.

So I got a job at Wellness Resources in Edina.

And we have internet now! It was kind of an interesting 1-2 hours with the cable guy watching Celebrity Poker Showdown. He seemed to be enjoying it.

He also gave us a free network adapter that he had in his van when he realized we weren't about to be buying one for awhile. And he installed my router too...so woo.

Also, my computer is in the shop again. The screen went out again. The lady at the Genius Bar said that if I ever have another problem with the hardware like I've been (even if it happens after my apple care is expired), I have sufficient grounds to have my laptop (which is 2.5 years old) replaced with a brand new one.

The Rock has been planning some pretty sweet stuff on our campus, so I'm pretty excited about that...and Lee and I are meeting again on Saturday to talk more about the small group. We need to think of a name though by tonight. So far all I got (thanks to Ben) is to start the name with "Team"

Tomorrow I get to go to Cold Stone and Davannis! I love Cold Stone! and pizza!

Today I ran around Lake Harriet, but I had to stop midway through to use the portable potty. Oooh, and yesterday I ran around Lake Calhoun, and I got around in less time than it took me to go around Lake Harriet last saturday (a good mile shorter). So that was kind of exciting for me. Though I'm sure all it means is that I was going really really slowly on Saturday

Can I get a what what?

A newly bald Howie Mandel is on Celebrity Poker Showdown right now with celebrities such as Meatloaf and the dads from Malcolm in the Middle and 7th Heaven.

I had a few things to say.

We were supposed to get internet on Thursday, but Comcast screwed up a little...long story short we don't have to pay as much, but we have to wait a week. I later remembered that my favorite coffee shop has free wireless internet, so it's not holding me back too much.

I sent my resume to like 6 places last night. My top choice thus far is at this health spa where I would work from 5:15am to 8am 2 or 3 times a week. It'd be nice to have a job that A: doesn't ask very much of me (hours-wise), and B: won't make me work in the evenings...so I'm hoping I get that one.

Otherwise it was the Wellness Resource Center that was my top choice, four hour shifts throughout the week somewhere between 8:30 and 5:30 (which would mean 1:30 to 5:30) which wouldn't get too much in the way of my schedule either, and it pays a little better...but I still say the health spa is better...imagine, if you will, being done with work at 8 am. Amazing.

Another thing was when Amber and Nikki brought me back from the airport - we pulled into our parking lot and I realized that my car was parked in the second best parking spot in the lot.

"Has that been in that spot this entire summer??" - me
"yep" - Amber
"oh man, I should've moved that" - me

In other news, my room smelled like an animal had died in there....because Muffin was pretty much making it into a wilderness excursion. But, I opened the window, turned a fan on, and got some air fresheners, and it's all good now. AND I combed out half his clumps. He's a good boy.

I bought new soap, and it's true what they say, you're not fully clean until you're zestfully clean.

I met with Lee, the new male student small group leader on Thursday at Caribou. I anticipate this is going to be a very good year...we still have a lot of stuff to talk about, but we seem to be on the same page on everything so far...The only thing that we question is the fact that we're both economics majors and we both like math...so we're afraid of that backfiring somehow on the group. But yeah, it was a really really good meeting, and I'm excited for what God wants to do through us and the group this year.

I'm looking around at the walls of Caffetto, and I just realized the Golden Girls painting is gone. In fact, all the walls are completely bare. It's a shame.

I went to the fair today...and Ben and I saw this really really sickly small baby pig try to get up (which took FOREVER, aww) and then he stumbled around trying to find somewhere to get his milk, but in the process he managed to wake up every single other baby pig, causing a feeding frenzy. It was one of the cutest things I've ever seen in my entire life.

Today, for the first time in my life, I got motion sickness.

I was in the car, driving Mel and Darrick to the airport, and all of a sudden I felt sort of funny...and then I wanted very much to throw up...traffic was horrible, so we were in that car, stopping and going, stopping and going, for what seemed like forever. Complete torture. About an hour later when we finally got home I went into the bathroom where I saw myself in the mirror - discolored, disheveled and crying just a little, looking not unlike I'd died. I sat at the toilet, coughing and spitting, wanting more than anything to vomit into that little Bemis toilet.

So odd.

Normally I love motion.

Backstory:

My first month in Australia (read: over 2 years ago), Erika and I were walking downtown...and we spotted a sign for the Rock comedy musical "We Will Rock You." We were like "a musical featuring all Queen songs!? What? We gotta go to that!" and we tried really hard, and planned over the next few months to go see it because we didn't think it would play all over the world, so we wanted to see it while we were still in Australia, we just had to figure out a way!...but alas, in the end, finances got the best of us, and we were not able to go.

Then last Thanksgiving, my sister and my parents and I went down to The Strip, and I saw an ad for "We Will Rock You" and I got all shocked and excited because it was playing there! I thought I'd never have the opportunity again! But I pretty much just got excited and that was that.

Now we're up to date.
Last night I opened my birthday card from my parents and I find THREE TICKETS TO "WE WILL ROCK YOU" for Melanie, Darrick, and I!!

My parents are sooooo thoughtful and generous! Can you beweave it? Anyway, so today at 2pm, I'll be at The Strip watching a Queen Rock comedy musical.

So my parents were telling me today about the Pakistani team that played in the World Championship. They were awarded the "good sportsman award." See, they learned how to play bridge just 3 or 4 months ago. Then they came to the World Championship in Sydney...and they didn't win a single hand of course. Apparently though they just had these huge smiles on their faces the entire time...even though they were getting creamed.

I just love stories like that. Stories where people just smile.
